Political Falsehoods, Hypocrisy And The 2015 General Elections

The Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy as enshrined in the 1999 constitution deals essentially with the fundamental obligation of the government to its citizens, but the political class ruling Nigeria, their political attitudes and negative orientation toward a common national agenda is suspect because

Re: Dear Mrs Okonjo-Iweala - A Rejoinder To Sonala Olumhense

The problem I have with Mr. Sonala Olumhense’s articles on the Coordinating Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the general absence of verified facts and the basing of opinions on gross inaccuracies.
For instance, Mr Olumhense writes that $2.5 billion of Abacha money was recovered during Dr Okonjo-Iweala’s time as Finance Minister under President Obasanjo and that the money disappeared implying some involvement in the disappearance by the Minister. This is absolutely false. First, the amount recovered was $500 million, not $2.5 billion. The recovered amount was channeled into

The Era Of Born-Cold-To-Harm

Those whose pastime is to step up the tide of spilling innocent bloods, have no doubt themselves murdered sleep and bade farewell to any form of peace of mind, till Karma takes its toll at the end. The currency and rapidity of events in Nigeria often defy the common laws of social gravitation, political calculus or economic fundamentals. Sadly the interplay of forces in Africa’s largest country, of approximately 170 million citizens, leans more on negative realities than mere pigmentations of people’s imagination. From corruption to destruction! These gory stories range from little offences of cyber crime, burglary and robbery; to daylight kidnapping and midnight mass annihilation of innocent compatriots through conflagration and gunshots from evil-filled ‘agitators’ possibly born-cold-to-harm others, without a tinge of remorse or any milk of humanity in their veins. Heralding this era of total insanity of terror and fratricidal hemorrhage in our country are the so-called Boko Haramites! Do they have any ideology aside

Exposing This Evil Religion Called Islam - Confession Of A Muslim

Ladies and gentlemen, I take it upon myself to boldly stand before you to day, and reveal these evil acts of Islam. Coming from a Muslim background, I am sure my confession would be taken seriously.

It all started in the desert of what we all know today as Saudi Arabia. A man called Muhammad, with a very bad habit of being honest, to the extent that if he tells his kinsmen that the sun has fallen from the heavens, they will not hesitate for a second to believe him

Declare A State Of Emergency On Youth Unemployment, Saraki Urges FG

Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Senator Bukola Saraki, has urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency on unemployment among youths in the country.
Saraki, who represents Kwara Central senatorial district in at the National Assembly, stated this in Ilorin yesterday, at a one-day technical summit for unemployed youths in Kwara State entitled: ‘Youths Unemployment in Kwara State, The Way Forward’.
According to him, “Despite all the persisting unemployment problem, there is much we can do and we need to take our destiny in our hands and proffer solutions because the boys and girls that are unemployed are Nigerians.”
He said: “There is every need to extend the declaration of state of emergency to youths’ unemployment. We have done it in the power and water sectors among others and it has worked out well.”
Saraki, who is also the immediate past governor of Kwara State, said: “According to the National Population Commission (NPC), youths account for 65 per cent of the Nigerian population and 23.9 per cent of the unemployment rate in Nigeria.
“In comparison to other countries like Brazil, which has a working population of over 130 million and unemployment rate of around 14 per cent and South Africa with a population of over 52 million has unemployment of almost 40 per cent.
“In Kwara State, the current unemployment rate is nine per cent, the second lowest in the country. There cannot be any stability, peaceful environment and prosperity of any sort with this level of youth unemployment.”
The lawmaker, however, emphasised on entrepreneurship promotion as the new trend particularly to address the challenges related to alarming high youth unemployment rate.
“It also offers pathways for young people to overcome the problem of unemployment. I am of the view that special attention must paid to social entrepreneurship mode which should be infused in the real economy closer to the youth within local environment,” Saraki said.

Boko Haram Sets 3 Vehicles Ablaze, Abducts Drivers In Borno

Boko Haram insurgents struck again, Monday, on a highway in Borno State, razing down two trucks loaded with oranges and a Toyota Hilux vehicle, after abducting their drivers.
The ambush was on the now dreaded Maiduguri-Damboa- Biu road, which has witnessed a series of highway raids resulting in the killing of several persons.
It was gathered that the attack occurred a few kilometres from Limanti/ Bullabulin Ngarwa communities where a series of deadly road attacks masterminded by Boko Haram sect had taken place in recent times.
Speaking to journalists in Maiduguri, a commercial driver who narrowly escaped the attack, Mallam Musa Usman, said the insurgents seized the highway at about 9am.
According to him, some suspected members of the notorious sect were seen driving from their enclave in the Sambisa Game Forest to the highway and on getting to the highway, they barricaded the road and blocked off other vehicles.
“They set ablaze three vehicles including a truck loaded with oranges,” he said.
Usman added that immediately he reached the scene, shortly after the attack, he saw the terrorists ordering the abducted drivers into their vehicles, which made him to make an immediate U-turn and made his way back to Maiduguri.
“I have to thank God for sparing my life with two of my children who I was taking to Biu for the Christmas Holiday after finishing their exams last week,” he said.
He noted that he had even encountered two different security check-points before almost falling into the hands of the Boko Haram members.
“But as God would have it, I sighted an unusual happening along the road, just a few metres to the scene, which made me to immediately put my vehicle into reverse gear, before making U-turn back to Maiduguri,” he said.
The spokesman of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Mohammed Dole, who confirmed the incident, declined further comments, adding that details of the attack are still sketchy.

UPDATE ON BORNO ATTACK: Eyewitnesses Account Of Boko Haram Attacks

Maiduguri, Borno State — Yesterday, December 9, a group of insurgents attacked motorists along Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu Road. The unknown gunmen abducted the drivers, and set ablaze two trucks loaded with oranges and a Toyota Hilux truck.

The incident happened not far away from Limanti/Bullabulin Ngarwa communities, where, recently, Boko Haram conducted a series of deadly road attacks.
The previous day, suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed motorists along Gwoza-Firgi-Ngurosoya Federal Highway in Borno State. Five passengers were murdered in the course of the assault.
It is worth noting that the sect members conducted the attack on the same day the National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), had initiated a new approach and a change of tactics in fighting Boko Haram terrorism.
Eyewinesses’ Accounts
According to the motorist who managed to escape the attack, Mallam Musa Usman, the incident took place at about 9 a.m.
He said a number of terrorists were seen driving from their enclave in the Sambisa Game Forest to the highway; on getting to the highway, they barricaded the road and blocked other vehicles.
“I have to thank God for sparing my life with two of my children, whom I was taking to Biu for the Christmas holiday after finishing their examinations last week,” he said.
Usman added that upon reaching the scene, he saw the terrorists ordering the abducted drivers into their vehicles.
“We nearly fell into the hands of terrorists. But, as God would have it, I saw unusual movements along the road, just some few metres to the scene, and I immediately put my vehicle on reverse gear, before making U-turn back to Maiduguri.”
“They set ablaze three vehicles including a truck loaded with oranges,” he said.
He remembered encountering two security check-points before almost falling into the hands of the Boko Haram members.
Another eyewitness, Mallam Salisu Yahaya, who was on his way from Biu to Maiduguri, accounted: “When we reached the place, we discovered that three vehicles were burning, but nobody was there.
“When our driver manoeuvred his way to pass through the road, we couldn’t see anyone there”.
“After passing the scene, our driver stopped at a small village near the place of the attack to find out from the villagers whether the road was safe. But we were told that some Boko Haram terrorists from Sambisa forests this morning [yesterday] barricaded the road in a nearby bush unleashing terror on motorists.”
Authorities React
Army sources confirmed the incident, but failed to provide further details. Spokesman of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Mohammed Dole, promised to issue a statement on the matter as soon as the division finished compiling its report on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Presidency may have initiated a new approach and a change of tactics in fighting terrorism, saying it had realised that military operations alone cannot stop the menace of terrorism.
Dasuki, who made the disclosure at the Strategic Communications workshop held at the National Defence College, yesterday, said “a robust public diplomacy,” which would involve every facet of the society, including aggressive mass media participation, is to be put in place to tackle the menace.
